Q.What made you decide to join the company?
When I was thinking about coming to Japan to work, it was important to me to find a company where I could work safely. I was looking for a job among many food industries that I could imagine working in, and Risshodo caught my eye.
When I looked at Risshodo’s website, I felt it was a trustworthy company because it clearly described the company’s history and appeal. When I actually went to see the factory, I was surprised at how kind the employees were to me, and that gave me the desire to take on the challenge.
The newly renovated, wonderful cafeteria is one of the reasons I thought I could work here for a long time. Just being here makes me feel like I’m with family.
Q.What are your current job responsibilities?
I’ve just joined the company recently, so I’m still learning the job by following up with my seniors. I’m mainly in charge of managing invoices as an office worker, and I use my knowledge of Word and Excel, which I was good at, to carry out my daily work.
Lately, I’ve gradually gotten used to communicating by email and answering the phone. I sometimes get contacted by people from various positions, such as business partners and general customers, but I manage to get the job done by making use of what I learned at Japanese language school.
Q.Have you ever had any difficulties in your work?
When I first joined the company, I couldn’t help but feel anxious about working for a Japanese company. Many thoughts ran through my head, such as “Will I be able to use honorific language properly?” and ” Are my manners good?”.
I still get nervous when I think back to the first time I answered the phone. But now, I can feel that my language usage is clearly improving as I take on unfamiliar tasks.
Q.Please tell us about the atmosphere and environment of the company.
When I first joined the company, I was a little worried about whether I would be properly accepted because I was the first foreign employee to join the company. However, in reality, I have not been treated any differently, and I can work every day with a relaxed attitude.
I have plenty of days off and I rarely have to work overtime, so I’m able to lead a regular life. On my day off, I went shopping and refreshed myself by eating my favorite ramen and cake.
A message to those who will be working with us from now on
To those who will come to work at Risshodo from overseas, I would like to say, “Don’t worry!” As the first foreign national, I intend to pave the way for you to work with peace of mind.
My current goal is to quickly become able to carry out all the tasks and be in a position to provide guidance. I hope that those who join the company as foreign workers, will feel at ease when they come to Risshodo.
