Q.What made you decide to join the company?
In my previous job, I worked on manufacturing camera lens parts because I loved detailed work. I had begun to think about working in a different industry that was centered on manufacturing, and that’s when Risshodo’s job advertisement, a company that makes rice crackers, caught my eye.
At the time, I had a relative who worked at Risshodo, so I asked him various questions, such as “Can I work there?” I heard many good things, such as a friendly atmosphere and the ability to take plenty of holidays, so I was able to make up my mind to join the company.
I remember well that when I got home and told my family that I wanted to work at Risshodo, they were excited for some reason. It seems that the power of the rice crackers that were a part of every household is enormous.
Q.What are your current job responsibilities?
My job is to select the rice crackers to deliver to you in the same condition.
Among the rice crackers that come through the conveyor belt, any that are broken or misshapen are removed. This is a very delicate process that has been carried out by human eyes since the company was founded.
When I first started, I wasn’t very good at sorting and had to rely on my seniors , who were always by my side. Now, after three and a half years on the road, my skills have improved to the point where I can instantly remove anything that doesn’t match the image of rice crackers I have in my head.
Q.Have you ever had any difficulties in your work?
While thorough hygiene management is very important, the reality is that there are also other difficult aspects. Before entering the factory, we wash our hands and thoroughly clean our work clothes with a cleaner (a roller) using a one-minute timer.
A hat that covers the whole head is also essential to prevent hair from falling out. To make rice crackers, it is necessary to increase the humidity, so it may be a little difficult in the summer.
However, as a sorter, I will never let any foreign object mix into the product. When I work with that mindset, my motivation for the job naturally increases.
Q.Please tell us about the atmosphere and environment of the company.
What I want to say is that the entire company is filled with a very comfortable atmosphere. It’s an environment where you can ask anyone anything, so I’ve never once been stuck at work because I didn’t know what to do.
At first, I was nervous about whether I would be able to fit in with the small number of female employees. However, now that I can communicate with everyone equally, I feel like I wasted time worrying about it.
Another reason I feel like this is a good environment is that the work I do is designed for women. I’m given tasks that don’t require a lot of physical effort, such as sorting, so I can work with peace of mind.
A message to those who will be working with us from now on
When I find Junmai Senbei at the supermarket or see it at a friend’s house, I just want to say “Thank you!”
I’m so happy to be involved in a product that is so familiar and loved. I never imagined I would feel this way before I started working here.
